About
About us
AUG is an independent project, built to help people dealing with uric acid, gout, kidney stones and excess weight make clearer food choices, alongside the care of their own health professional.
- Independent project
- Personal experience
- More than 10 years of work
Why AUG
A project born from a real need
AUG starts from a simple observation. When you are dealing with gout, high uric acid, kidney stones or excess weight, dietary advice is often hard to apply day to day.
Between purine tables, oxalate guidance, glycemic load, calorie density, sodium and fiber, it quickly becomes difficult to know what to eat, how much and how often.
Our goal is to make this information clearer and more useful, without ever replacing the role of a doctor or a registered dietitian.

The people behind AUG
A small team, a clear goal
Founder
Régis Chouraqui
I am the founder of AUG and I have been working on these topics for more than 10 years.
My interest in uric acid, gout, kidney stones and weight is not theoretical: I am affected myself. That experience put me in front of the same difficulties as many people, understanding the recommendations, comparing foods, avoiding oversimplified shortcuts and finding markers that are actually usable.
Over time, that personal research became more structured work: gathering data, comparing sources, combining nutritional parameters and building a clearer method to analyze foods.
Co-founder of the AUG Indexes
Grégoire Tranchat
Grégoire Tranchat is co-founder of the AUG Indexes. He helps shape the project, with particular attention to the clarity of the tool, the user experience and turning complex data into simple, understandable markers.
His role is to keep AUG faithful to its original goal: a useful, readable and concrete tool, for individuals and professionals alike.
Scientific validation
Built with doctors and scientists
- 01 Exchanges with experts doctors, dietitians, scientists
- 02 Method tested in practice feedback integrated, sources cross-checked
- 03 Refined AUG Indexes reliable, readable markers
- 04 Serving patients understand better, decide better
To build and refine the AUG Indexes, we exchanged extensively with doctors, dietitians and scientists. Their feedback shaped our method and tested it against real-world practice, for markers that are reliable and genuinely useful to the people concerned.
The science behind our scores →Useful, careful and transparent
Useful
Answer concrete everyday questions: which food to choose, which serving to favor, which alternative to consider.
Careful
Every situation is different and deserves a health professional's opinion. We remain an information tool.
Transparent
A food score should be something you can explain and discuss, never something imposed as a fixed truth.
AUG is not meant to replace human expertise, but to make nutritional information more accessible, helping each person decide better and professionals support better.
Our approach
Combine the data rather than oversimplify
Many tools reduce gout nutrition to purines alone, or kidney stones to oxalates alone. These factors matter, but they are not always enough to understand the overall effect of a food.
AUG relies on a broader approach. We combine several nutritional parameters to produce scores that are easier to read day to day. Depending on the goal, the analysis can take many relevant factors into account.
The aim is not to deliver an absolute truth about each food. It is to offer a structured marker that helps compare foods and prepare the conversation with a health professional.
One core parameter per score
On top of this foundation, many other factors are weighted specifically for each score: gout, kidney stones and weight.
For professionals
An educational support
AUG was designed to respect the place of health professionals. The app does not replace a consultation, does not make a diagnosis and does not provide personalized nutritional prescriptions.
It can serve as an educational support to help patients better understand the advice they receive and apply it between appointments: comparing two foods, explaining the effect of a serving, showing that a food is more than a single criterion.

Understand without guilt
If you are dealing with gout, high uric acid, kidney stones or excess weight, you have probably already heard advice such as "avoid certain foods" or "watch the purines".
AUG helps you move from a general recommendation to a concrete decision: which food to choose, which serving to favor, which alternative to consider. The point is not to scare you, but to give you clearer markers to move forward with more peace of mind.
Transparency
What we are, and what we are not
AUG is a tool for nutritional information and understanding.
- AUG does not replace a doctor or a registered dietitian.
- AUG does not make a diagnosis.
- AUG does not prescribe any treatment.
- AUG does not replace personalized care.
Our role is to help people better understand foods and the nutritional parameters that can play a part in concerns such as gout, high uric acid, kidney stones or excess weight.
